Muslim Consultative Network empowers the diverse NYC Muslims by connecting communities through dialogue, education, collaboration and social action.

MCN reaches across boundaries of race, ethnicity, gender, class and religious identity to build safe, supportive and healthy communities free from discrimination. The “consultative” part of our name emphasizes the value we place on an Islamic principle known as shura, or mutual consultation, as a way to ensure that all voices are heard when decisions are made.

We primarily work within the New York City Muslim community. An estimated 700,000 Muslims call New York City home. At least 1/3 of these Muslims are immigrants and 1 in 10 children in New York City public schools identify as Muslim. This growing number of immigrant and American-born Muslim New Yorkers trace their roots back to some 100 countries and speak as many dialects.

MCN does not work exclusively within the Muslim community. Much of our programming connects communities of faith and builds bridges of understanding. Therefore, we often partner with faith-based organizations and religious institutions, most often partnering with churches and synagogues. We work with around 70 organizations, schools, colleges, places of worship and secular groups.
